RATSTo make sure we don't attract the rats at Coombe Lake (we have started to take steps to cull them, anyway) please do not throw any food, bait or groundbait on the bank. Please take it home with you and throw in you own food waste bin.
Advanced Warning - Coombe Lake may be closed on Sunday 21st December 2008 and used as a reserve venue for the Langport/Heron Clubs' Charity Match if the river is unfishable.
If you have any questions, comments or catch details/photos on the river or Coombe Lake, please email me (I'm Dave Jolly, Club Secretary) at:- langport@davidjolly.plus.com
ROD LICENCEDon't forget - you should have renewed your Environment Agency Rod Licence at the beginning of April. Don't fish illegally; if caught, you can be fined up to £2,500 and your fishing tackle will be confiscated.
IMPORTANT NOTICE - SOME OF THE NUMBERS FOR THE COMBINATION PADLOCK IN THE SEASON TICKETS HAVE A '0' IN THEM. I'VE SINCE FOUND THE PADLOCK DOES NOT HAVE '0' ON THE THUMBWHEELS; SO WHERE YOU SEE A '0' IN THE NUMBER FOR A MONTH, USE '1' INSTEAD.

ANTI-CORMORANT MEASURESSaturday 10th October, a Committee working party fixed ropes across both arms of Coombe Lake (see photos below), in a bid to try and deter Cormorants from visiting and removing our fish. This is a method that has been used successfully by a syndicate in the Ilminster area. Cormorants need most of the length of the lake to land and take off, so the ropes prevent that happening. At Ilminster, the birds circled the lake for awhile, decided they couldn't land because of the ropes and flew away - they haven't been seen near the lake since. We hope the ropes are also successful on our lake. The ropes may limit the distance some of you cast, particularly some carp anglers, but we ask you to adapt to it if fishing in the winter. If a hooked fish should run under a rope, lower your rod tip close to the water surface and play the fish back. We anticipate that the ropes might be removed for the summer, next year. Please do not tamper with the ropes which, hopefully, will help to preserve our fish stocks.
